1470s South German Harness

This harness is based on the statue of Saint George and the dragon in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York.

This reproduction was built by Manning Imperial and was completed in 2024. It is very close to the original, not just in overall shape, but in all the small details, from buckles and straps to pyramid shaped rivets, fingernail markings on the gauntlets, and rows of holes along many edges.

Particularly interesting are the closed bevor/gorget, which fully encloses the neck, and unequal construction of the left and right arm.

Some pictures from our trip to Germany, taken at the 2024 Feldlager at Brandenburg and at the Harnischfechten Symposium at Lauchroeden.
